FINAL RESULTS
State of Nevada Official Version of the Proclamation

WHEREAS, Geocaching is an internationally popular “techno” treasure hunt with more than 148,000 caches in 213 countries worldwide in which players use a GPS electronic device to mark their coordinates and locate a cache, a place where sponsors have hidden prizes; and

WHEREAS, Geocaching was first conceived and put into practical use in May of 2000, and has become a popular high-tech game of treasure hunting for people around the world who enjoy the outdoors; and

WHEREAS, Geocachers practice their hobby by four simple rules: Sign the log book, take something from the cache, leave something in the cache, and return the cache to the exact position and condition in which it was found; and

WHEREAS, Geocachers embody the true spirit of Nevada with their fondness of the outdoors, their sense of adventure and a love and respect for public land while striving to minimize any impact to the environment when hiding or seeking a cache; and

WHEREAS, the more than 1,600 Geocaches placed and maintained around Nevada’s great mountains, vast deserts, historic towns and settlements and urban areas have proven to be popular destinations for Geocachers from across the country and around the world; and

WHEREAS, the Nevada Commission on Tourism has embraced the lure of the adventure of Geocaching in Nevada by placing and maintaining Geocaches of its own; and

WHEREAS, the Second Annual Great Basin & Eastern Sierra Geocachers’ Navigational Geocache Rally, which introduces Geocachers from across the country and around the world, in friendly competition, to the beauty and mystery of Nevada’s landscape, concludes on this day; and

WHEREAS, all proceeds from the Second Annual Great Basin & Eastern Sierra Geocachers’ Navigational Geocache Rally will be donated to Fallon Families First, a nonprofit group for the victims and families of the Fallon Leukemia Cluster;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, KENNY C. GUINN, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim May 21, 2005, as
