May 22nd, 2004

It began as a simple email with an idea; it exploded into one of the most fun-filled, exciting, and unforgettable treks into the Nevada desert for almost every entry.

Plus, we were able to make a donation of $283 to Fallon Families First, a charity dedicated to providing aid to the children and families affected by the Fallon Leukemia Cluster.

Now, look through the photos and hear what the participants, volunteers, coordinators, and survivors of the Inaugural Great Basin and Eastern Sierra Geocachers Navigational Rally have to say.

EXCERPTS

Twas the night before rally in 2004
Our overloaded truck couldn't hold any more
We had originally planned to use the old car
But its system would handle only one GPSr
Besides it was limited to only a trunk
In which to pack up all our geocaching junk
On our way to Nevada the very next day
A low flying rock was headed our way
We zigged and we zagged but that did no good
That fast flying rock flew over the hood
Into the windshield if flew with a "smack"
Instantly creating a very large crack
But that couldn't stop us from reaching our goal
We're determined geocachers, body and soul
Our starting time called, we waited in line
Then off we drove in search of the signs
At one point we nearly got stuck in a ditch
But we finished the course with nary a hitch
We left without prizes, no trophies or such
But that didn't really bother us much
After running all day through the muck and the mire
While passing through Truckee we blew out a tire
No matter the hardship there's no room for fear
We'll be back in the rally that's coming next year. -
